Is the Senate Republican Health-Care Bill Dead?

Late Monday evening Republican Senators Mike Lee (Utah) and Jerry Moran (Kansas) tweeted their opposition to the latest version of the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BRCA).

“There are serious problems with Obamacare, and my goal remains what it has been for a long time: to repeal and replace it,”

“This closed-door process has yielded the BCRA, which fails to repeal the Affordable Care Act or address healthcare’s rising costs. For the same reasons I could not support the previous version of this bill, I cannot support this one.” – Moran

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the rest of the republican senate started the process of trying to repeal and replace Obamacare knowing they could only afford to lose 2 votes to pass any legislation. With Lee and Moran announcing their opposition to the BCRA the number of republicans that have publicly opposed the legislation now stands at 4, including Senators Rand Paul (Kentucky) and Susan Collins (Maine).

As much as Republicans hate the idea, they should work with Democrats on legislation that can shore up the health exchanges, lower premiums and lower deductibles within the framework of Obamacare.

Of course that’s easier said than done since republicans have built their base on a repeal and replace rhetoric that never had their constituents in mind.

Meanwhile, what’s next for the Trump White House?

Right now their only accomplishment is helping the ratings for MSNBC shows ‘Morning Joe’ and ‘The Rachel Maddow Show’

I Hope Trevor Noah Doesn’t Apologize!

Trevor Noah needs to stay strong and not give-in to the PC crowd complaining about his Tweets.

The PC Police have been busy the past couple of days, first Jamie Foxx and now Trevor Noah.

Foxx and his Bruce Jenner jokes at the iHeartRadio Music Awards landed him in some hot water, and now they are coming for Noah after he was announced to replace Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show.

In the age of social media, it has now become commonplace for people and the media to take a look at your Tweet history. And it took approximately 24-hours to find something wrong with Noah and his comedy.

TrevorNoahTweets

Are these really the kind of tweets that people call “Anti-Semitic” or hateful????

When did we become such a sensitive society????

While watching MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ this morning I couldn’t help but notice that everyone is an expert on comedy. Whenever a politician or someone involved in politics does or says something stupid; they have pundits from both sides (Democrats and Republicans) speak on the issue. These pundits are experts, but in this case no one on the panel was a comedian.

Where was the representation to give the perspective from the comedian?

So far Noah and Comedy Central are standing tall and are not backing down. They each responded with the following:

TrevorNoahTweet1

“Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included. To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central.” – via Politico

A comedians job is to be funny, and sometimes they will hit a home run and sometimes they will fail miserably. But that doesn’t mean they should be vetted like politicians and watch what they say. Could you ever imagine George Carlin, Eddie Murphy or Richard Pryor worrying about being PC???

Before I go, checkout the late-great Patrice O’Neal talk about the PC cops trying to regulate what’s funny….

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough calls out NRA…

Obama

This morning on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe‘, Joe Scarborough called out the NRA for their latest ad against Senator Joe Manchin for his role in the Gun Control Bill (Toomey-Manchin Bill) that was voted down earlier this year.  In the attack ad the NRA linked Joe Manchin to President Obama and NYC Mayor Bloomberg, Scarborough attacked the NRA for the misleading ad and also took the NRA to task for the image used for President Obama.  Scarborough noted how some people asked him if he thought the ad purposely darkened the image of Obama with shading, to make him look “more ominous”

It’s so obvious, look at his hands. It looks like he is a coal miner from West Virginia, look how dark they made his hands.  Look at the side of his face, this is a question that answers itself… You don’t have to call me up and ask me if I think the Washington NRA shaded Barack Obama hands… – Joe Scarborough

Here is a clip from ‘Morning Joe’ continuing to talk about the NRA:

As a fan of ‘Morning Joe’ I was a lil surprised Scarborough’s comments, my surprise was not in judgement of whether he was ‘right or ‘wrong’.  This is something I would have expected (not in a bad way) from his co-host Mika  Brzezinski.  Scarborough is far from being a Obama fan, so when a Republican like him makes an observation like this…  You can’t but take notice.

Militant Mondays – Chris Matthews Accuses Romney and GOP of Playing the Race Card

I have to apologize as I incorrectly wrote this piece saying that Chris Matthews called Mitt Romney a racist. Chris Matthews clearly said that Mitt Romney was playing the race card in this incident.

As much as I am a fan of MSNBC programming and Chris Matthews infamous rants against Mitt Romney and Reince Priebus.  This morning on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ Matthews went on a rant talking about how Mitt Romney’s “joke” concerning birth certificates was basically the Mitt Romney and the GOP playing the race card.  Matthews went as far as to say Romney is playing the race card.

On Friday at a rally in Michigan, Romney said the following:

“No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place where both of us were born and raised.”

Romney claims this was his attempt at humor and this morning Reince Priebus (Who I think is a prick!) backed up that story and said the president has even joked about his birth certificate.

Was this an attempt at humor for Mitt Romney?

No…

What Romney did there was make an attempt to play up that Birther part of the base.  In playing to that part of the base Romney is playing with fire, its fire that John McCain was unwilling to play with back in 2008.  I commend Matthews for doing what most host and definitely not Joe Scarborough and that is call Priebus on his BS.  When Priebus said that President Obama was looking to Europe for guidance when it came to health care and spending, Scarborough would have never called Priebus on that.  I wonder if Priebus would say the same thing about Bush 43?

Yeah Right!!!

In the video you can see how uncomfortable the rest of the panelist were; because Chris Matthews wears his politics on his sleeve he couldn’t help himself but go on this rant.  What we saw in Matthews was built of frustration of the past 4 years, it will be interesting to see if there will be any blowback from MSNBC Execs.  Matthew could have probably avoided all this if he stayed away from mentioning the “race card”; he would have been fine if he made the argument that Romney should stay away from birther jokes and the likes of Donald Trump and condemn that part of the Republican Party.  Unfortunately once he gets going there is not much stopping him…

In all honesty I did enjoy watching Reince Priebus squirm a bit; ever since he took over as head of th RNC  I have not liked his style in handling the media, who am I kidding???  I think the guy is a dick!!!

Talking Points Tuesdays – Repealing Health Care Reform Law

When the Democrats were “Shellacked” in the November Mid-term elections it was said that the downfall of the Dems and President Barack Obama was the focus on Health Care  Reform.  Political pundits on both sides along with Republicans leading up to election night and the day after said time and time again that the focus should have been on Job Creation and bringing down the National Debt.

So when Republicans started the 2011 session of the House of Representatives the first bill they decided to bring to the floor of the House was; drum roll please…….

Introducing Repealing the JobKilling Health Care Law Act”

With all the talk of listening to the people and how the House or Reps belong to the people Republicans have decided to turn a deaf ear to the people and follow their obsession; Barack Obama.  This is all about defeating Obama and whatever it takes to make it happen.  It doesn’t matter that the #1 concern of the people is the debt and the economy; polls show that Americans may not be thrilled with the Health Care Reform Act but there are number of things about the bill they like.

If the GOP continue down this road they will only be shooting themselves in the foot and are setting the stage for Obama’s 2nd term.  As the president’s favorable numbers improve (50%) the idea of Obama losing in 2012 will be nothing more than a silly pipe dream for the Republicans.  They better smarten up before it’s too late; the idea of it still being early is nothing but an illusion, just ask Democrats!

As Mike Barnicle  from MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” repeatedly said last year, “It’s the Economy stupid!”

We all know the Health Care Reform Act is far from perfect but it is a starting point, if Republicans don’t want to believe a Moderate Liberal like myself how about former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn)

“It is not the bill that [Republicans] would have written,”

“It is not the bill that I would have drafted. But it is the law of the land and it is the platform, the fundamental platform, upon which all future efforts to make that system better, for that patient, for that family, will be based.”

“[The bill] has many strong elements,”

“And those elements, whatever happens, need to be preserved, need to be cuddled, need to be snuggled, need to be promoted and need to be implemented.

Yes, that is Republican Bill Frist who is saying work with the foundation of the legislation and improve it; not sure what to think about the “Cuddled” and “Snuggled” parts but everything else Republicans should listen to… HAHA!!

WTF/WTH Wednesdays – “Don’t touch my Junk”

TSA pat downs

When John Tyner (not pictured) said, “If you touch my junk, I’m going to have you arrested” to an TSA (Transportation Security Administration) Agent during a pat down security check at an airport; he gave all dumbass Americans across the country a reason to bitch and complain about TSA security.  Yes you are reading it correctly, I am calling all the nutbag folks complaining about pat downs and body scanners dumbasses!!!

By the way John Tyner purposely taped his encounter with TSA, this wasn’t a coincidence by any means

We have all heard it before, after 9/11 the world as we knew it changed.  When those mofos boarded American domestic flights and took over planes with small knives the game most definitely changed.  We could no longer just look for terrorists trying to just smuggle bombs or guns on a flight.  Kats are now trying to light exploding shoes (Richard Reid) and underwear (Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab), this is not a game any more.

Since 9/11 we have been reluctant to profile passengers; and rightly so.  Terrorist are no longer just Middle-easterners with head wraps; again just look at Richard Reid aka Shoe-Bomber and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab aka Underwear-Bomber.

I am pretty sure everyone wants to fly safely without worrying about their plane being blown up or hijacked.

The problem is that people want to be safe without giving up anything; our society is SO selfish!  Everyone is for safety until they are inconvenienced in any way; I guess death is an acceptable option when it comes to standing in long lines or getting felt up a little bit.

When TSA rolled out the new program of Body Scanners and Pat Downs disgruntled passengers complained about being a naked image on a screen and being “molested”.  Sounds like people or more OK with being naked slabs on a coroner’s table, because that’s what you are ultimately saying!!  There are options offered; you can opt-out of the body scanner and subject yourself to a pat down.  Except people have issues with pat downs as well, just ask John Tyner aka “Don’t touch my junk”

So let me see if I got this…  We want secure safe flights protected from passengers/terrorists carrying weapons onto flights that could cause harm to the innocent.  We want this level of security minus the hassle; this National Opt-Out day is the dumbest thing I ever heard of.  You are protesting more security; this is what people find to be important, WTF!!!

Some people take the stance that they don’t want some strange TSA Agent feeling them up.  How about this thought, I bet TSA Agents would love to avoid getting close to or feeling up overweight or dirty mofos.

So far I have heard a lot of bitching but I don’t hear a lot of other viable solutions being offered that can be effective.  Some say we should move towards the Israeli model of screening passengers (interviewing passengers and selecting questionable candidates).  That would be great if the United States was the size of Israel, you can’t even compare the to airport systems.

I say body scan and pat me down if you have to; just don’t TUG on my junk. HAHA!!!

In all seriousness I am fearful and not afraid to say it; I know we can’t cover all the bases but I would hope we would be open to ways that could make us safe.  If you want to argue/protest lets focus on areas that are barely (only 4%) even being looked at like cargo on flights.  Body scans and pat downs are not humiliating, what’s humiliating would be turning a blind eye to real threats.

Unfortunately I believe people will only wake up to what is REALLY important about keeping us safe when there is another attack on U.S. soil and or skies.

Mike Barnicle on MNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ said it best this morning, “We are now more afraid at airports, apparently of being felt up than being blown up!”

MSNBC suspends Joe Scarborough for GOP Donations

Joe Scarborough host of MSNBC's Morning Joe

After suspending Keith Olbermann for making political donations to Liberal candidates; MSNBC is now trying to come off as being a fair and balance network by suspending MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough.  MSNBC announced about earlier this evening that Scarborough will be suspended for 2 days without pay (same punishment Olbermann received).  When Olbermann was suspended MSNBC was highly criticized by Liberal pundits for the move as information started to come out that Scarborough had made similar political donations to GOP candidates.

One particular Liberal pundit that made the most noise about Olbermann’s suspension was his colleague Rachel Maddow.  The Friday after Olbermann was suspended Maddow used the closing remarks of her nightly show to voice her support.  Maddow unleashed a verbal assault pointing out the number of FOX News hosts that have donated to political campaigns and how GOP candidates use Fox News to openly raise campaign funds.  She pointed that unlike Fox that Keith does not attempt to hide his donations and that there is difference in how Fox and MSNBC hosts do their jobs.  During her verbal lashing of unfair treatment of Olbermann, Maddow made sure to mention that other hosts on MSNBC have donated to political campaigns without punishment…

“You can [donate] if you ask in advance and management tells you OK. That’s what I understand happened with our morning show host’s political donations in 2006, under previous management,” she said.

At the time it was thought that the only difference between Olbermann and Scarborough’s donations was that Scarborough asked for permission.  Days after Olbermann’s suspension Scarborough spoke with MSNBC President Phil Griffin and supposedly reassured Griffin that all his donations were on the up and up with MSNBC policy.

End of story right???  Not really…

Political new service Politico (first to scoop the Olbermann donation story) uncovered at least 5 political donations of $500 each that were not mentioned by Joe during his conversation with Griffin.  When confronted Scarborough admitted to making in total 8 donations of $500 each to candidates in his home state of Florida.  In light of this news Phil Griffin released the following statement

“This morning, Joe Scarborough informed me that he’d made eight contributions of $500 each to local candidates in Florida between 2004-08,” wrote Griffin. “In my conversation with Joe two weeks ago, he did not recall these contributions. Since he did not seek or receive prior approval for these contributions, Joe understands that I will be suspending him for violating our policy.”

Scarborough will be able to return to his show Nov. 24th

For Joe Scarborough this has to be a little bit embarrassing and there will surely be jokes on Joe and MSNBC from the likes of Jon Stewart (The Daily Show) and Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report).  For the record I like Joe and I love his show “Morning Joe”; Scarborough is one of the more fair Conservatives and he tries to give fair opinions as he is critical of both Liberals and Conservatives.  Hopefully we have heard the last of MSNBC hosts being suspended, fingers crossed.

Meanwhile FOX News has to be laughing at all the negative press their rival is receiving.
