Pres Obama honoring the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions

On Monday President Obama honored 2011 Stanley Cup Champions the Boston Bruins, this is a tradition that has gone on for years where the president will honor the champions in sports. There is nothing political about this event, but that didn’t stop one particular Bruin from excluding himself from the celebration.

Tim Thomas the 2011 Conn Smythe Trophy (Hockey MVP) winner decided that he would use the non-political event to show his protest of the direction government is going in with President Obama as Commander-in-Chief…

“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.

“This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.

“Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.

“This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT”

Without a doubt Tim Thomas has the right as a “Free Citizen” to protest gov’t; this is why The United States of America is great.

BUT…. And you knew there will be one from me

As I give a slow unenthusiastic clap for Thomas and his right to protest, my only thought is that this is was a waste of time. This is not a Tommie Smith and John Carlos 1968 Olympics protest moment;

in that case the world was watching. Here Tim Thomas swung and missed, or should I say he let one go right through the five hole… Especially when he states, “This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic.” Sorry Tim but if you want to make a real impact you should step up and face the media and explain your protest. Let us hear your voice instead of reading a statement, IT’S YOUR RIGHT!!!

The way I look at it Tim Thomas is not disrespecting President Obama, it’s his choice. At the end of day the goalie short-changed himself, when will he get another chance to face the President of the United States and state his opinions? Oh well Mr Thomas, carry on….

New Dad Jay-Z....

Once again the internet rumor mill got ahead of itself when a poem allegedly written by Jay-Z about his new outlook on the word “Bitch”. Many believed that with the birth of his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter and the poem being circulated was Jay turning over a new leaf where he would no longer use “Bitch” in his rhymes.

Oh well…

In a NY Daily News interview Jay-Z stated that,

A recent report he wrote a poem to his newborn daughter vowing to drop the word “b—-” from his vocabulary.

“That poem and story are fake,”

It was a nice thought, I can’t front I was excited for Jay and Beyoncé to get at it again and have a son… Then maybe Jay would stopped with the n-word, YEAH RIGHT!!!

I guess 99 Problems and BITCH is still One, hey we can still enjoy the soft side of Jay in the song ‘Glory’

Rioting over the new Jordan XI Concords, WTF!!!!

You mean to tell me this is our society now when people are rioting over some SNEAKERS????

The videos of mobs of people trampling others, breaking down doors and fighting over the New Jordan XI Concords is beyond believable. I can’t explain this sneaker fetish as I have never been emotional about a pair of sneakers. And in saying that I don’t have a problem with people who lineup for hours (some over-night) to ensure they get cop the new Jordan, LeBron, or Kobe kicks. But I do have an issue with folks, namely Black folks on the verge of killing each other over some sneakers.

In the midst of a recession people want to fight over some over priced sneakers ($180) when they should be fighting to get their finances in order or even better fighting to make sure their kids are getting a proper education.

How many of these parents who are lined up outside of shopping malls waiting to buy the new Jordans will lineup outside of their kid’s school demanding a good education??

We need to get together folks, our priorities are all screwed up!

Payroll Tax Cut Extension Deal, did Pres Obama back down?

It was only a short time ago that President Obama said he would veto any Payroll Tax Cut Extension bill if the Keystone Pipeline XL was attached to the bill.

Well…..

This morning the president touted the Payroll Tax Extension Bill albeit a temporary extension (2 months); but what was missing from the presidents short address concerning the extension was that the bill he praised had the Keystone Pipeline XL attached to it. Yup, that same Keystone Pipeline that he said would bring about the veto of any bill.

I am of the opinion that when you use the threat of the veto you better use it; at this point the GOP already have made up their minds that they can challenge Obama without any repercussions. And this is exactly what this was about! I realize the president values the payroll tax cut extension but why talk about using a veto if you’re not going to use it???

Maybe President Obama has something up his sleeve….

Fox News reporter Ed Henry posted on his twitter today:

If Henry is correct nothing REALLY changes as the this bill is not forcing the president to do anything but say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to Keystone sooner than later. Obama can still say ‘no’ to the pipeline, the question now is what will he decide. All the facts are not in concerning Keystone Pipeline as there have been many questions surrounding the job creation numbers; Glen Kessler of the Washington does a good job detailing some of the questions about the numbers in his Washington Post Fact-Checker.

Another sign that this is not a ‘cave-in’ by Pres Obama is the reaction from House Republicans who have voiced their displeasure with this deal. It has been reported that House Republicans let Speaker Boehner know that they do not feel this is a win for Republicans and that this deal may set the stage for Pres Obama to bash Republicans for not passing a long-term Payroll Tax Extension (year-long extension) during his State of the Union Address.

There is still a chance the House Republicans may revolt against Boehner and not sign-off on this deal; Republican leadership like Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority WHIP Kevin McCarthy are not completely sold on this latest deal.

If this deal falls apart it will without a doubt show how weak Speaker Boehner actually is in the House!

‘Occupy All Streets’ shirts disappear, What happened Jay-Z???

DAMN, that was quick….

WSJ (Wall Street Journal) is reporting that Jay-Z’s ‘Occupy All Streets’ shirts are no longer being sold online from Rocawear‘s website. It looks like Jay-Z and Rocawear folded under the pressure from the scrutiny of their decision to profit off of the Occupy Wall Street (#OWS) movement. I guess Hov decided if he couldn’t profit off of this then fuck it!

It’s possible that Jay-Z will re-launch the shirt with some of the profits going to Occupy Wall Street but at this point it seems unlikely as Rocawear has not released any statements about the removal of the shirts from their website.

Jay-Z is a shrewd businessman but he is not perfect, it just shows you have to be careful. Jay/Rocawear are no small-time street vendors that no one cares about, the Occupy Wall Street movement is real and people are paying attention.

Also, this is a great example of the type of influence Jay-Z has over pop culture. The moment he wore that ‘Occupy All Streets’ shirt he created an instant buzz; I can’t imagine what it’s to carry that much weight….

F-A-Natic Fridays – Jay-Z’s Occupy All Streets???

Jay-Z has decided to support the Occupy Wall Street (#OWS) movement with a new shirt that his clothing brand Rocawear will distribute; Hov recently wore the Occupy All Streets shirt at the MSG Watch The Throne performance. Jay-Z getting behind the Occupy Wall St is sort of a BIG DEAL; this attention will bring a crowd not typically interested in social issues. Of course the attention will be superficial at first as people will be more into looking cool wearing the t-shirts, but there will be an effect (positive and negative).

BUT, I do have 1 problem with Rocawear’s Occupy All Streets t-shirts

“The ‘Occupy All Streets’ T shirt was created in support of the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement. Rocawear strongly encourages all forms of constructive expression, whether it be artistic, political or social. ‘Occupy All Streets’ is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement.”

Sooooooo, you support #OWS, BUT you only support to a certain point????

Come on Rocawear, you have to do better than that; the #OWS movement is about the 99% tired of the 1% building their fortunes on the backs of the working man. And here we have Rocawear profiting off the backs of #OWS!!!

If the shirt is just designed to be cool and “of the moment” or something, then, fine. Do whatever you want. However, if they actually intend it as support, then they should be supporting in a more tangible way.

What Jay-Z’s doing isn’t wrong, per se, it’s just kind of tasteless and jerky seeming. If he wanted to lend his support, he could have shown up at the protests… Or he could have made the shirts say something clearer like “Jay-Z, a rich man, should pay more taxes!” Or he could just give the movement some of the darn profits.

I agree with Bershad on these points, basically Rocawear is profiting off the backs of #OWS! Jay-Z needs to call up whoever at Rocawear and tell them to do the right thing. I realize there is a cost of production, Rocawear should keep what money they need to cover cost and give the rest to support #OWS.

Put the mic down for a second Hov and do the right thing!!

Over the span of 24 hours the world of boxing and hip-hop lost 2 greats; condolences to both their families. It’s wonderful to remember these greats after they are gone, let’s try to do more to remember and celebrate those people while they are still living.

Talking Points Tuesdays – Do you STILL think Herman Cain is serious??

So after watching Herman Cain over the past couple of weeks I am convinces this kat is a little off, in his own way I still think this he is serious about running for President. I refuse someone would put themselves in the position of being a fool for no reason, and I don’t believe it’s all about selling books. Although the money he is making off book sales doesn’t hurt, and at the end of the day you’re not going to try to stop making money.

But…..

Herm got some issues and I don’t mean sexual harassment charges or possible campaign finance issues, Cain’s problem is that he has no one to tell him that he should quit!!!

I mean just look at his gaffes:

9-9-9 Tax Plan, nice catch phrase but get into the details and there is a lot to complain about. Both sides of the aisle have their issues with this plan.
1st he said he told Wolf Blitzer before Vegas debate he would negotiate with terrorist, then during the debate back tracked and said he wouldn’t
Claim to be joking and then not joking about creating an electrified fence to protect United States border and fry some illegals, SMH….
His handling of sexual harassment scandals from the past; 1st he could not recall and then he could recall but mis-stated the payouts. Now up to 4 women who have had encounters with the Hermanator!

But wait there’s more……

Here is a clip from The Rachel Maddow Show last week where Rachel has FINALLY figured out Cain’s campaign; this is a great job by Maddow’s staff for the research they put in for this….

Ummmmm, so this guy really took a phrase from Pokemon????

And with all this silliness he has not lost anything with GOP voters, in fact he has gained as he has been raising money playing the victim. WTF, wake up folks, I know Mitt Romney is not perfect but there has to be someone better than Herm????

If you haven’t seen the video from Occupy Oakland you need to watch this, I have a hard time believing this is a city in the United States. Without having all the facts I can’t believe protesters were that out of control that would cause the police to throw tear gas into the crowd. The mayor of Oakland has to do better and the word is she will be meeting with the Occupy Oakland folks.

If think the Occupy protest are rinky-dink, think again!!!

Here we go again with another STUPID Herman Cain campaign ad, who the hell is doing the creative thinking for Cain’s campaign ads????

Does Cain review these ads before they are released? If so his judgement is poor and I definitely don’t want him making ANY crucial decisions for the United States.

WHO THE HELL IS NICK SEARCY???

So far Cain has some of the worse campaign ads I have ever seen, and what’s up with the creepy smile Cain gives at the end of his campaign ads?

So what I can gather from this ad is that they are trying to poke fun at President Obama for reading his speeches from a teleprompter and being a community organizer. After more than 3 years of the Obama presidency this is all Herm and his crew got for Obama?!?!

GTFOH….

I guess killing Osama Bin Laden, al-Awlaki and helping to capture and kill Muammar Gaddafi doesn’t mean anything as well. Instead Mr Searcy wants us to support the CEO of Godfather Pizza who would flipped-flopped on negotiating with terrorist, doesn’t know what a neoconservative is, and thinks it’s cool not knowing who are the leaders of middle eastern countries.

This guy can’t be serious, he makes Sarah Palin look like a viable candidate. Come on GOP, you can do better than this!!
